8 Doors Distillery is in John O’Groats and began distilling in September 2022 so naturally it won’t produce whisky until 2025. While we wait they’ve released 2 limited edition bottling by ballot. One of them is the 10 year old Aultmore which is a tasty dram finished in an Oloroso cask.
The colour is warm copper and looks inviting.
The nose has lots of Christmas cake with toffee and nuts and more than a hint of plasticine.
The palate gave me Victory V lozenges, peanuts in toffee, fruitcake and a kick of nutmeg with that numbing of your gums that comes from a 46.7% abv dram.
The finish was long and robust with vanilla, nuts and a hint of cloves.
