This is a first for me as I’d never seen this whisky before, let alone try it.
The first thing that strikes you is the rich colour which is like a cream sherry. The nose is all cherries with nutmeg and ginger with a hint of spice.
The taste is like a Christmas cake that’s been well watered with rum, or a slice of Soreen Malt Loaf washed down with sherry.
There’s more spice in the finish with dark chocolate overtones.
This dram is different in that it’s bottle number 16 drawn from a single cask so others from a different cask may have other attributes.
My first dram of Balvenie Single Barrel certainly won’t be my last!
